As I am sitting here on holidays, I am observing everything around me. In a place where people from all around the world come to vacate, it is rather peaceful and relaxing. Kids having fun, Dad’s being big kids and mum is either joining them or sitting on the shore observing.
And it got me thinking. How many of these mums on the shoreline are actually stressed out? How many times have you been on a holiday when it is more stressful than being home?
The more I look around the more of this I see. Couples arguing, and stressing out, and we wonder why when we come back to work we catch ourselves saying “The holiday was great, but now I need a holiday from my holiday!”
Kids schedules are thrown out of wack; which means cranky kids by the end of the day. Parents trying to organise sightseeing adventures and fitting is as much as possible so nothing is missed. And it always seams that one parent is on the time boat – ‘ we need to do this and this, then this’ and the other is on the relax boat – ‘dinner will happen when I get to it’.
Our modern lives are so hectic and busy, why do we think holidays will change us? Ok, so we don’t have to work everyday, but the kids are still there, our partner is still the same, the bills still need to be paid and we have not changed. So the real question is;
Why don’t we make everyday a holiday?
Learn to relax and switch off everyday when we come home from work or put the kids to bed? Instead of scheduling 4 weeks a year to relax. It seems quite absurd to thick we need to schedule only a small amount of down time per year. And lets face it, who ever takes the full 4 weeks a year, every year to go on holidays.
Here is another thought - Why don’t we change our outlook on life so we can get the best out of our everyday lives? To know when to relax and when to work on point, this way we can get the most out of our day-to-day lives and our holidays.
This is something that I teach in my Mind & Body workshops. How to switch from a relaxed to a productive mindset on cue. Now to me that sounds exciting. Be who you want to be, when you want to be it, so we can get the most out of every situation.
Having this sort of control over our lives is what helps propel us to where we want to go. Change who you are being and therefore changing your outcome. That feels good to me.. xx
